History

The School of Resources, Environment and Geosciences of Yunnan University was established in 2002 with a history that can be traced back to the former Department of Mining and Metallurgy since the beginning of the university in 1923.

 

Majors

The school consists of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, the Department of Geophysics, the Department of Regional and Resource Planning, the Department of Geographical Information Sciences, the Department of Geology, the Experimental Teaching Center of Earth Environment, Geography Institute of Yunnan Province, Geology Institute of Yunnan University, and Research Center of Remote Sensing Geology of Yunnan University.

It has six undergraduate majors, namely Atmospheric Sciences, Geophysics, Physical Geography and Resource Environment, Human Geography and Urban-Rural Planning, Geographical Information Science and Geology.

There are 11 authorized secondary master disciplines including Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics and Atmospheric Environment, Solid Geophysics, Space Physics, Human Geography, Physical Geography, Cartography and Geographical Information System, Regional Economics, Land Resource Management, Stratum and Paleontology, and Environmental Geology.

In addition, it has three authorized first-level master disciplines namely Atmospheric Sciences, Geophysics and Geography, and two secondary doctoral disciplines including Meteorology and Physics of Earth's Interior. The school has a provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center, a national-level characteristic major, and a provincial prestigious specialty.

 

Faculty

The school has 98 teaching and administrative staff, including 17 professors, 27 associate professors, five doctoral supervisors, and 51 master supervisors.

 

Research

Over the past three years, the school has achieved a lot in scientific research and published more than 1,000 academic papers, five treatises, and two teaching materials. It has shouldered plenty of national, provincial and industrial major-related projects.
