School of Art and Design

History

Yunnan University's School of Art and Design has roots going back to 1994, when the university cooperated with the Malaysia International Design Group to found one of the earliest schools of design in China.

After various adjustments, the School of Art and Design took on its current form in December 2015.

Goals 

The School of Art and Design is committed to enhancing its instructional capability, improving program quality and strengthening and developing the advantages of its disciplines. Moreover, it endeavors to become a first-class center for art education, scientific research and practice innovation focused on national art and modern art.

Majors 

The School of Art and Design has a Fine Art Department, a Music Department, an Environment Design Department, a Visual Communication Design Department, a Digital Media Arts Design Department and a Fashion Design Department.

It has six undergraduate majors in fine arts, musicology, environment design, visual communication design, digital media arts design and fashion design.

It also has two disciplines (artistic theory and fine arts), one sub discipline (Chinese ethnic art) and one master's authorization for an art major. It has two doctoral supervisors for Chinese ethnic art and literary theory.

Faculty

The school has 11 professors and 20 associate professors. One is a member of the national social science foundation significant tender project, three serve on the Chinese undergraduate course teaching committee, and three have been shortlisted for talent projects at ministerial and provincial-levels.

Research 

The School of Art and Design has cooperated with a South Korean university to publish music journal, Asian Musicology. The Secretariat of the Asian Music Institute, the Oriental Music Institute and Audiovisual Ethnomusicology of ICTM are all located in the School of Art and Design, which has also cooperated with Hong Kong Polytechnic University to establish an art design and social development center.

Facilities

The School of Art and Design has a complete teaching platform, consisting of two teaching studios for painting, 31 student public studios, 32 teachers' studios, one art gallery, three exhibition halls, one art anthropology museum; 20 3D animation studios, a video design studio, a graphic design studio, and a digital audio studio for design disciplines. It also has 40 multi-media classrooms, seven music rooms, 30 piano rooms, a music theatre, and two teaching practice bases.
