History

The discipline of physics at Yunnan University originated from the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Donglu University in 1933. The Department of Physics of Yunnan University was founded in 1945.

The Department of Astronomy was launched in 2013, becoming the fifth astronomy department of Chinese higher education institutions.

The departments of physics and astronomy, together with the Physics Experiment Teaching Center, were incorporated into the School of Physics and Astronomy in 2015.

Goals

The School aims to provide students with foundational knowledge, the ability to apply knowledge as practice, and pioneering and innovative attitudes, as well as develop its own unique characteristics. It will further focus on cultivating high-quality innovation personnel in physics and astronomy and improving their research ability as it becomes a research-oriented school.
