A ceremony to launch a set of books on ethnology and sociology was held by Yunnan University (YNU) in partnership with the Social Sciences Academic Press, at YNU, on Dec 21.

The ceremony also served as an opportunity to plan in detail the 2019 Annual Conference for Chinese Social Sciences.

Over the past year, the Institute for Minorities Studies in Southwest Border Region has published a set of books on ethnology in conjunction with the Social Sciences Academic Press.

Academics in attendance discussed the history of the YNU sociology and ethnology department, with many sharing their experiences of developing the two disciplines since 2001 –– when the Ministry of Education established YNU’s minorities institute as a key research base for social sciences.

They also looked back on the partnerships between YNU and the Social Sciences Academic Press, and held a discussion on the specifics of preparing for the 2019 Annual Conference for Chinese Social Sciences.

The meeting was attended by Xie Shouguang, editor-in-chief of the Social Sciences Academic Press and secretary-general of the Chinese Sociological Association; Chen Guangjin, director of the Institute for Social Sciences at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Cheng Boqing, dean of the School of Social Sciences at Nanjing University; Zhang Wenhong, dean of the School of Social Sciences at Shanghai University; Tong Genxing, deputy editor-in-chief at the Social Sciences Academic Press; He Ming, person in charge of the ethnology department of YNU; Zhao Chunsheng, Party secretary of the School of Ethnology and Sociology at YNU, and other scholars from YNU, the Chinese Sociological Association, Nanjing University, and the Social Sciences Academic Press.
