Key astronomy project launched at YNU

A national astronomy project funded by the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) was launched at Yunnan University (YNU) with a seminar on Jan 22.   

Participants in a project that researched the formation and evolution of the galaxy, and specialists from the National Astronomical Observatories of China at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yunnan Astronomical Observatory, Beijing Normal University, Hebei Normal University, Xiamen University and YNU attended the seminar. 

Speaking at the seminar, Dong Guoxuan, deputy executive director of the department of mathematical physics at the NSFC committee, said that he expected significant research achievements would come, thanks to the support of the fund. 

Liu Xiaowei, professor at the South-western Institute for Astronomy Research and the leader of the project, also delivered remarks, in which he made a detailed analysis of the comments from the experts on the project, and further clarified the research plans. 

Following Liu’s speech, participants in the project delivered reports on the current conditions of each of their segments of the research, and held discussions on the problems they had encountered.
