A group of Yunnan University (YNU) students managed to bag 10 awards at the national final for the 2018 Five-Minute Research Presentation Competition, on Jan 20.
Sponsored by China English for Academic Purposes Association (CEAPA), the contest was designed for undergraduates and graduates from Chinese universities and colleges.
Participants in the competition were required to describe their research clearly in English –– to an audience without a technical background.
This is the first time that CEAPA has hosted the competition, which saw 871 contestants from 64 universities and colleges, and 113 judges attending the event.
The YNU delegation took the lead after being bestowed with 10 awards out of the 76 available.
Cao Yunpeng, a student from YNU's School of Information, and Zhen Chunmo, a student from the School of Architecture and Planning shared the first prize with their speeches focusing on solutions to atmospheric pollution and energy conservation.
Other YNU winners shared the second and third prizes.
