A new breakthrough in the field of chemistry made by a team at Yunnan University (YNU) was reported in the online edition of the respected German journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition, on March 18.

The first author of the paper, which is titled "Enantioselective Total Synthesis of (+)-Flavisiamine F via Late-Stage Visible-Light-Induced Photochemical Cyclization", is Tong Xiaogang, a lecturer at YNU; Shi Bingfei and Liu Qian, both students on a master's degree program, and Liang Kangjiang, a post-doctoral degree holder, are listed as co-authors.

Xia Chengfeng, a researcher working in YNU's Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry for Natural Resources, and also leader of the research team, is the correspondence author.

The research received support from the Natural Science Foundation of China, Yunnan Basic Research Plan, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education.
