A 16-member delegation from Yunnan University (YNU) visited Fengqing county to help supervise and support its local poverty-alleviation program, from March 19 to 23.
Led by Zhang Li, vice-president of YNU, the delegation consisted of faculty members from the university’s School of Physics and Astrology, School of Architecture and Planning, the International Institute for Safety of Rivers and Ecology, Office of Poverty Relief, and the YNU-affiliated hospital.
In Hebian village, the delegation visited a local tea plantation and other poverty-relief projects to learn about local industrial development.
A meeting was held between Zhang and village officials to discuss future plans for the local economy. Zhang urged the officials to engage with the local community to find out more about the wants and needs of local people.
The delegation also visited a number of families living on low incomes, and distributed a number of grants.
On March 21, Zhang attended a ceremony to launch a remote medical and education center at the Lushi-branch Hospital of Fengqing People Hospital in Lushi town.
The launch of the center in Lushi town represents another effort by YNU to promote healthcare and education in less-developed areas –– following the success of the system in Hebian village.
The idea was developed by a YNU research team led by Zheng Jialiang from the university’s Technical Center for Digital Medicine at the School of Physics and Astrology.
It was designed to make education and medical resources in urban cities accessible to people from impoverished areas.
