Yunnan University (YNU) student Pu Zhenghua was nominated for Chinese College Student of the Year, according to a recently published list.
The competition was supported by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Daily and organized by the People’s Daily Online, China Campus Magazine, Guangming Daily, and Chinese University Students Online. It is meant to recognize model Chinese college students.
Following several rounds of competition, a total of 10 students from across China were singled out for the award, and 40 candidates were nominated for the award.
Pu Zhenghua is an undergraduate in the Class of 2015 at YNU. He is majoring in tourism management.
He enrolled in YNU in September 2013 and joined the army a year later. During his military service, he was sent on several major military assignments and won recognition on many occasions for his excellent performance.
In September 2016, he retired from the army and went back to YNU to continue his studies. Over the following three school years, he excelled in academic performance and ranked seventh among students in his major.
He also helped establish a shooting team at YNU and assisted in the training of team members. In a military skills competition among college students from throughout Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, the YNU shooting team emerged victorious.
Pu has also been actively involved in entrepreneurial activities. Over the past two years, he has led three teams in various college entrepreneurship competitions and won 12 awards, seven of which were at the national level.
He was also honored for his charitable acts, as he offered six years of financial support to a middle school student who lost his parents.
