Yu Muming, president of Taiwan New Party, gave a speech at Yunnan University (YNU) on June 26.

Li Pei, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Congress, and Zhang Chaode, director of the Office for Taiwan Affairs of the Yunnan Provincial Government, also visited the university along with the Taiwanese delegation.

In Yu’s speech, he encouraged students to work to improve cross-strait relations.

“Life is like sailing. People need to learn to how to adapt to the changing environment”, he said.

“Exercise restraint when sailing downwind, and exercise patience when experiencing difficulties”, Yu added.

Yu’s speech resonated with audience members and received a round of applause.

Lin Wenxun, Party secretary of YNU, spoke about cross-strait relations, saying YNU will continue working to improve understanding between young people from both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

The New Party of Taiwan, led by Yu, has always stood firm in its support of the “One China” principle and is against Taiwan independence.

In 2007, Yu visited YNU and delivered a speech at the university.

The address ceremony was chaired by Li Jianyu, deputy Party secretary of YNU, and was attended by nearly 300 faculty and students.
