YNU foreign students score high in martial arts contest

Receiving invaluable guidance from the Yunnan Provincial Sports Bureau and the Yunnan Education Department and hosted by Yunnan Daily Press Group, Yunnan province's first martial arts exchange competition was staged in Kunming on Nov 17, local officials said.

Nearly 300 people from across the country, including 25 teams of foreign university students from Yunnan province, participated in the event

A team from Yunnan University, comprising six foreign students, took part in 10 contests during the event and scored high, according to university reports.

In the team, Ripon Chandra Ray from Bangladesh won two gold medals, while Sugdiyona Safaralieva from Uzbekistan won a silver medal.

University officials said that the competition helped more people learn about martial arts and traditional culture and helped promote martial arts at the university.
