The International Seminar on the Inheritance & Protection of Palm-leaf Culture in China-Southeast Asia and South Asia was held at the Donglu campus of Yunnan University, or YNU, on Nov 16-18.
The organizers said the successful seminar attracted some 10 international experts from Thailand, Laos, Sri Lanka, and Germany, as well as experts and scholars from Chinese universities, colleges, institutions and research centers.
It was co-hosted by the Development Institute at YNU, the office of arts and culture of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University and the Palm-leaf Culture Research Center of YNU.
Attendees exchanged viewpoints on the latest research achievements for the inheritance and protection of the culture in China and in Southeast and South Asia. They also called for more attention to the need for inheritance and protection of the culture.
Topics such as current protection of the Palm-leaf Culture, the culture's modern value, digital sorting of related literature and regional cultural exchanges and cooperation were discussed during the event.
Palm-leaf Culture is a key traditional culture of the Dai ethnic group with focus on Southern Buddhism. It is popular in Yunnan in China, as well as in countries like Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Sri Lanka,
The Palm-leaf Culture Research Center at YNU was co-established by YNU and the people's government of Xishuangbanna, providing a platform for research, inheritance and protection of the culture.
