Yunnan University was conferred with the title of national culture and tourism research base at a ceremony held in Beijing on Dec 10, according to YNU officials.
The ceremony was held by the Central Academy of Culture and Tourism Administration.
Officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism participated in the ceremony and awarded the title to 25 such bases, officials said.
They included the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Communication University of China.
The research bases are being launched by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, aiming to accelerate the integrated development of culture and tourism.
Officials said that the national base will promote YNU's "double first-class" construction –– its aim to develop into a world-class university with world-class disciplines.
University officials said that with the establishment of the new base, the Culture Development Institute of Yunnan University will broaden its theoretical and practical research in the culture and tourism sector, and train more high-level professionals.
