YNU student offers voluntary service in Wuhan

"It has nothing to do with your age,” the young student declared. “As long as you want to give, you can fight the epidemic with millions of people," she added.

Those heartfelt and resolute sentiments were expressed by Wang Wange, a student from Yunnan University who lives in Wuhan, epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China.

Wang, a young person from the post-2000s generation, is currently working as a volunteer at the General Hospital of Central Military Command of People's Liberation Army in Wuhan, with the role of coordinating supplies.

She started the job on Jan 29 and usually works from 7 am to 8 pm.

Discussing her motivation in joining the voluntary team, Wang said she looks up to her mother. When she was 7 years old in 2008 her mom, a doctor, went to Wenchuan to for 70 days to treat people in the wake of the great earthquake there, while she could offer no help.

But this time, after her mother again rushed to the front line in the coronavirus outbreak, Wang said she had the chance to work together with her parent, as well as help people.

Responsible for coordinating donated materials, Wang received hundreds of phone calls in several days. She said many people from all walks of life are trying every means they can to donate things to the hospitals, which has deeply moved her.

As a Wuhan girl, it's time to do something for the city, Wang said.
