YNU volunteer makes a difference in battle against outbreak

Updated: 2020-02-26

Wu Bin, a postgraduate student at the School of Ecology and Environmental Science of Yunnan University, wasted no time volunteering to help with the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus in response to the  outbreak, according to YNU officials.

Wu works as a volunteer at Caocun village in Jinning district of Kunming, Yunnan’s provincial capital.

Initially, he was responsible for checks and registration of passing vehicles and non-local people, giving out epidemic prevention and control leaflets and persuading villagers to don face masks.

When villagers were required to scan a QR code for registration, some of them didn’t understand why they needed to do it.

Wu then jumped in to explain, patiently and in detail, that the initiative was to record people’s movements in public areas and learn where the epidemic was to be found, when the public security department could track related people.

As a result of his and others’ efforts, all the villagers cooperated without any qualms.

Wu said that everyone should give thanks to the selfless medical workers on the front line, as well as consider the relationship between man and nature.

Young students should take on social responsibilities in the face of the epidemic, he added.
