Responding to the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak in China, students of Yunnan University have contributed a great deal to their local areas in terms of epidemic prevention and control, according to YNU officials.

Zhang Zhentao, a national defense student at YNU, who aims to be a police officer in the future, applied on his own initiative to be a volunteer in his hometown of Golmud, in Qinghai province.

Every day, Zhang needs to walk for an hour to reach the community he serves. His main work includes registering the information of everyone who has returned to Golmud from other places, promoting epidemic prevention and control knowledge to residents, disinfecting the community, measuring residents’ body temperatures and sending medicine and food to residents in need.

“What I do is unworthy of being mentioned compared with those medical workers, building workers and police officers who work all day to protect people’s safety,” Zhang said.

“We will definitely win the battle against the virus,” he added.
