Updated: 2020-03-25

The Institute of National Politics of Yunnan University, or YNU, was listed among 10 national research bases for building Chinese national community consciousness, according to a joint announcement by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, the Ministry of Education and the National Ethnic Affairs Commission.

The research bases are established depending on national key universities and research institutes, with the focus on academic innovation, service decisions and training professionals.

Nearly 60 universities and research institutes applied to be listed as bases, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Following two rounds of evaluations and investigations, 10 research bases were confirmed.

Relying on its long-term accumulation of ethnic politics research and its innovative achievements from studying the Chinese nation from the perspective of political science, the YNU institute  was listed among the 10 bases.

Professor Zhou Ping was selected as the chief expert of the new research base and professor Huang Qingji as its director.

YNU officials said that the establishment of the new research base would provide a high-end platform for the political science discipline at YNU and promote research and development there.
