Maipu Scholarship

The Maipu Scholarship was established on Nov 27 in 2018, at the School of Resource Environment and Earth Science at Yunnan University, or YNU.

It was set up by Kunming Maipu Space and Mapping Technology Co Ltd, for students in geography majors.

Since 2018, the company has donated 80,000 yuan ($11,284) to the school each year, to encourage students to study hard and to be engaged in the country’s land sector.

Outstanding undergraduate students in the geo-information sciences, human geography and urban-rural planning, physical geography and resources environment, urban-rural planning and other majors can receive the scholarship. Potential candidates also include outstanding postgraduate students in physical geography, human geography, land resources management, cartography and geographic information systems.

Feng Yao, chairwoman of Kunming Maipu Space and Mapping Technology, said she attached a great deal of importance to highly skilled professionals and she hoped that the scholarship would deepen cooperation between the company and with YNU in more areas.

Tan Shucheng, dean of the School of Resource Environment and Earth Science at YNU, said at the launch ceremony in 2018 that the school and the company had established partnership for more than a decade and had jointly built a leading teaching and practice facility.

Tan said the school would manage the scholarship well and cultivate more top professionals.
