YNU center ranks high among global think tanks

A center at Yunnan University -- located in Kunming, capital city of  Southwest China's Yunnan province -- was recently ranked highly in a prestigious list of global think tanks, according to YNU officials.

The accolade was received by YNU's Asian International Rivers Center, which came fourth in the field of water safety among 78 institutions globally, when in the United States the University of Pennsylvania's Think Tank and Civil Societies Program recently unveiled its 2019 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report.

YNU officials said that only three institutions in China were listed in the  specialist field.

They said the report has been issued annually since 2006 and it has established a set of objective and fair research systems.

By comprehensively ranking global think tanks each year, it analyzes the role of think tanks in governments and societies around the world and maps out the paths of think tank development internationally. Its global think tank ranking has become the most authoritative think tank ranking system in the world today because of its rigor and fairness.

The Asian International Rivers Center was established in 2000 under the auspices of YNU.

Focusing on independent innovation, it takes the Lanmei River basin  and the rivers in China, Southeast Asia and South Asia as its core focus  to conduct research. The subjects include cross-border resources and the environment, hydrological ecological changes and their impact, water resource allocation and rights protection, water safety, as well as  ecological safety regulations.

YNU officials said it has filled regional research gaps and created fundamental theories and established key technological systems.

Experts say it has created scientific research conditions platforms and field monitoring bases, supported the construction of major projects and served the sustainable development of the country and facilitated geo-cooperation.
