A delegation from the Department of Ecology and Environment of Yunnan Province visited Yunnan University on April 2, to discuss the construction of a green university, according to YNU officials in the campus in Kunming, capital of the province in southwestern China.
Fang Jingyun, president of YNU, together with other officials at the university, held a meeting with the delegation.
Department official Gao Zhengwen gave a briefing on the province’s preparations for hosting the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15) -- scheduled to be held in Kunming in October this year -- as well as on support expected from YNU.
The official said that YNU has advantages in ecology and related disciplines. He urged the university to liaise closely with his department to host the event, as well as to make efforts to protect Yunnan’s biodiversity, so as to promote the province’s sustainable development.
YNU should also make full preparations for the construction of a green university, he added.
YNU president Fang said at the meeting that in recent years, the university has fully leveraged its expertise in ecology and has conducted a great deal of research, as well as training a large number of professionals in the field.
The university will offer every possible support for preparations for hosting the COP 15, as well as help strengthen promotions of biodiversity protection and sustainable development in the province, the president added.
Attendees also discussed in detail preparations for the COP 15 and construction of a green university.
