Updated: 2020-04-28

The School of Architecture and Planning at Yunnan University originated from the Civil Engineering Department in the 1930s. In 2001, YNU launched a major in urban planning and urban management; in July 2004, in order to meet the needs of the development of new urbanization, YNU established the School of Urban Construction and Management; in October 2015, it was renamed the School of Architecture and Planning.

The school now has six undergraduate majors: in urban and rural planning, landscape architecture, architecture, civil engineering, engineering management and urban management. The school offers postgraduate programs for civil engineering, urban and rural planning, urban management and architecture and civil engineering, as well as doctoral research programs for biohazard environmental engineering. The school now has more than 700 full-time undergraduates and more than 200 postgraduates.

The School of Architecture and Planning has a fully equipped college office, as well as an experimental and teaching building. It also has a demonstration center for urban construction and digital city experiment teaching in Yunnan province. The experimental center has a 2,200-square-meter laboratory, with among other things a large reaction rack, UK GDS dynamic three-axis system, virtual simulation experiment system and other large-scale scientific research-grade instruments and equipment. It has a full range of civil engineering and construction physics experiments instruments and equipment, with total assets of nearly 30 million yuan ($4.24 million).

The faculty structure of the college is diversified and international and most teachers have rich professional practical experience. At present, it has 68 faculty members, including nine professors and professor-level senior engineers and 20 associate professors and senior engineers. There are nearly 20 teachers with overseas study and visiting experience and 25 teachers with doctorates. There are seven foreign professors from Britain, France, the United States and other countries. Teachers at the school have undertaken more than 120 scientific research projects, including more than 40 government-funded ones, as well as more than 500 practical engineering projects.
