Updated: 2020-06-12

The Culture Development Institute of Yunnan University is a research institution which integrates scientific research, teaching and social services. Its predecessor was the Cultural Industry Research Institute of Yunnan University, which was named the National Cultural Industry Research Center in 2007 by the Ministry of Culture -- being one of six national cultural industry research centers located in colleges and universities in China.

In 2006, it was selected as one of the first batch of provincial-level philosophical and social science research centers in Yunnan province. In 2015, Yunnan University changed the institute’s name from the Cultural Industry Research Institute to the Culture Development Institute of Yunnan University, to meet the needs for cultural discipline development and local cultural construction.

It has two doctorate programs in Chinese ethnic economics and ethnic culture industry, as well as one master's degree program in ethnic cultural industry.

The institute currently has nearly 80 master's degree and doctoral students. At present, there are 16 active researchers and three retired faculty members. Among these are four professors, six associate professors, five assistant researchers and three management cadres and scientific research assistants.

More than 20 well-known scholars, entrepreneurs and government cultural management leaders at home and abroad have been employed as part-time researchers at the institute for an extended period -- participating in teaching, scientific research and consulting.

The institute is engaged in conducting theoretical research in industrial innovation and development, cultivating leading personnel for the cultural industry and offering consulting services for cultural development.
