A major architectural design competition successfully wound up on June 5 organized by the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at Yunnan University, located in the capital city of Kunming in Southwest China's Yunnan province, according to YNU officials.
Nearly 200 teachers and students from universities nationwide -- including Chang'an University, Xinjiang University, Sichuan University, Northwest University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Yunnan University -- participated in the online contest.
Officials said finals was the culmination of a contest that ran for three months.
The competition was themed around a waterfront city conceptual design for Feihu Avenue in the Guandu district of Kunming. The plot of land is located in Kunming's new CBD free trade zone and international convention and exhibition center -- making it suitable for exploring architectural innovation and the protection of rivers.
Following comprehensive evaluation by architecture, urban-rural planning and landscape garden designers -- as well as university teachers -- YNU teams won two second prizes and two third prizes in the planning group and two second prizes and one third prize in the environmental group.
