Officials from the School of Law at Yunnan University -- in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province -- paid a visit to Hebian village in Fengqing county recently, to offer legal consultations and teach the locals there the law and their rights, YNU officials said.

Officials included Zhang Jianyuan and Liu Guoqian, both deputy deans of the school, who gave a lesson on legal knowledge to the villagers.

Using actual cases as examples, they analyzed common rural legal issues regarding village regulations and civil agreements, land ownership and transfers and divorce property divisions that farmers care about.

They also explained the actual legal needs of poor villages, YNU officials said.

Following the lesson, they also answered actual legal problems encountered by villagers in agricultural production and life, and gave them guidance and suggestions to solve the problems by legal means.

Local officials said that they would regularly carry out such events, to offer legal consultations to villagers and help more villagers become aware of the law.

Representatives from neighboring Yongfa village and Tuanjie village also participated in the lesson, according to officials.
