The science and technology award ceremony for China's Southwest Yunnan province in 2019 was held in the capital Kunming on July 9 -- honoring scientific and technological workers who made outstanding contributions to the province's scientific and technological progress and economic and social development, according to local reports.

Lin Wenxun, Party committee secretary of Yunnan University, as well as other YNU representatives including He Daming, Cao Jie, Cao Qiu'e, Ye Hui, and Yue Kun -- who received awards -- participated in the ceremony.

YNU officials said that in recent years, the university has focused on raising the innovative capabilities of its teachers and students.

They said it has cultivated high-level research platforms and innovation teams and achieved top research results -- providing strong support for YNU's development into a world-class university.

At the ceremony, teams from YNU received seven awards, including two first prizes, three second prizes and two third prizes.

In particular, the Yunnan international river innovation team -- led by researcher He Daming -- won the first prize in the science and technology progress awards.

A team from YNU's School of Earth Sciences, led by professor Cao Jie, won the first prize in the natural science awards, according to officials.
