Yunnan University (YNU) is committed to making sure that children in Lushi town, Fengqing county, Lincang city receive high-quality education as a significant method to intercept intergenerational transmission of poverty.
The students of Hebian Village Primary School, which is tucked away deeply in the mountains, initially had to traverse muddy roads on their way to school. Upon learning of the situation, YNU raised the money to build hardened roads and install solar street lamps to ensure the safety of students.
In addition, the university also spent more than 2 million yuan ($286,600) building new teaching buildings, a dormitory and a canteen for the primary school, which in the past had only one teaching building.
Since 2017, YNU has been sending its postgraduate students to Lushi Secondary School for voluntary teaching. They bring advanced teaching concepts and methods when discussing teaching plans and materials to share with local teachers.
Moreover, the university has donated an infrastructure construction fund of 128,000 yuan and contacted social resources to help impoverished students of Lushi Secondary School.
