YNU team's paper on Yangtze River published in Geology

The team of Professor Zheng Hongbo of Yunnan University (YNU) recently published a paper in Geology, a renowned academic journal on geology, describing the formation of the first gulf of the Yangtze River and the evolution of the Yangtze River throughout history.

The paper was another well-received piece that the team has published on the evolution of the Yangtze River in well-known publications like Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), National Science Review (NSR), and Science China.

The Yangtze River originates from the Tanggula Mountain on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and flows into the East China Sea east of Chongming Island in Shanghai. It is the longest river in Asia and the third longest in the world, behind the Nile River and the Amazon River. The age and geological evolution of the Yangtze River are a mystery that humans have been pondering for centuries in the field of earth sciences.

The research of YNU's team was supported by several projects, including major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the second comprehensive scientific investigation and research project of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the major special project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Yunnan Science and Technology Leading Talents Project, as well as the "double first-class" construction project of YNU.
