YNU hosts 11th South-West Forum

The 11th South-West Forum was held in Kunming, Yunnan province from Sept 25 to 26. Hosted by Yunnan University (YNU), the forum has attracted experts and scholars from home and abroad to explore issues in the construction of a regional community with a shared future.

Attendees included professionals from universities like the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, China Foreign Affairs University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Central University of Finance and Economics, as well as institutions like the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Institute of South Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, the Institute of International Relations, Tribhuvan University, Nepal, the Islamabad Policy Research Institute, Pakistan, the Institute of International Relations, Yangon University, Myanmar, and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

The forum was held through a combination of online video conferences and offline venues. Yang Zeyu, vice president of YNU, said at the opening ceremony that the forum is contributing collective wisdom to regional cooperation and governance as a high-level academic exchange platform that is well-known in South Asia and Southeast Asia.

As one of the organizers of the forum, YNU has actively served the construction of a regional community with a shared future in the aspects of fighting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, promoting the theoretical innovation of peripheral diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, as well as processing the construction of "double first-class" construction.

During the forum, the participating experts and scholars showcased their research fields and expertise to give keynote speeches, as well as conduct in-depth discussions on multiple topics.

In addition, important and specific discussions also covered international changes under the background of the COVID-19 epidemic and China's response, challenges and innovations of East Asian cooperation in the post-epidemic era, as well as regional governance based on the progress of Lancang-Mekong cooperation and China-ASEAN relations.
