YNU hosts Sino-France Biodiversity Governance Seminar

The Sino-France Biodiversity Governance Seminar co-sponsored by Yunnan University (YNU) and the French Consulate General in Chengdu, Sichuan province was held at the Science Museum of YNU's Donglu Campus on Oct 16.

More than 60 French scholars in China's research institutes in the field of ecology and environment, guests from the French Embassy in China and the French Consulate General in Chengdu, as well as YNU teachers and students in ecology-related disciplines attended the conference.

Professor Zhang Li, vice president of YNU, and Emmanuel Caillaud, Counselor of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation of the French Embassy in China, attended the seminar and delivered speeches.

The participants conducted in-depth discussions on topics like biodiversity conservation education and its significance, biodiversity conservation policies, as well as conservation case studies.

Interactive discussions between students and experts were carried out at the seminar. Teachers and students discussed issues in groups like the experience of China and France in balancing economic development and environmental biodiversity protection, how epidemics affect biodiversity, the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) and international environmental governance institutions, as well as Sino-French Environment Month and how to promote biodiversity conservation.

COP15 has been set to be held in Kunming, Yunnan province in 2021. In the future, YNU will make full use of its academic advantages in the field of ecology and environment, strengthening international academic cooperation in the field of environment and biology diversity protection and research, serving and participating in COP 15, as well as making contributions to the protection of the earth's biological resources.
