Wang Yang, a young teacher from the Institute of Economic Plants Research of Yunnan University (YNU), won the second place prize in the science group of the finals of the 5th National University Teaching Competition for Young Teachers, which was held at Nanjing University from Oct 26 to 30. This was YNU's best result in the competition since it began participating in the event.
The competition is composed of three parts: teaching design, classroom teaching, and teaching reflection. Contestants need to prepare a 20-hour teaching design plan and a corresponding PowerPoint presentation (PPT) of 20 classroom teaching sections. Only one teaching section will be randomly selected during the classroom competition.
Wang comes from a family of teachers and has been praised for her teaching ability. She has won special prizes in school-level and provincial-level teaching competitions. The honor she won this time has set an example for the majority of young teachers at YNU.
In 2020, the School of Undergraduate Students of YNU carried out a management model, increasing support for teacher teaching competitions. A group of young and middle-aged teachers were recommended and selected to form a teaching training camp, while experts were invited to conduct multiple rounds of intensive training and individual counseling both online and offline in a variety of aspects spanning teaching design, classroom teaching, and teaching reflection.
Teaching innovation awareness and classroom teaching ability have been greatly improved, while the level of teaching has been fully enhanced.
The 5th National University Teaching Competition for Young Teachers is jointly organized by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Teachers Affairs Division of the Ministry of Education, as well as the China Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports Union.
The competition is held every two years. The final stage is divided into five groups, with 160 university teachers taking part in it.
