Yunnan University (YNU) in Kunming, the capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, achieved fruitful development of its philosophy and social sciences disciplines in the past year, according to a report from the university.
The achievements in 2020 can be briefed as follows:
1. The number of projects approved by the National Social Science Fund of China ranked fourth nationally.
The National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences announced the list of projects approved by the National Social Science Fund of China in September 2020, and 48 projects from YNU were approved, including five key ones. The university ranked fourth nationally for approved projects, following the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University and Peking University.
2. Seven scientific research results were deemed "excellent" by the Ministry of Education.
In December, seven scientific research achievements of YNU were honored with the "excellent award" (humanities and social sciences) by the Ministry of Education, including two first-place prizes, two second-place prizes and three third-place prizes. The number of winning achievements ranked 43rd in China and first in the province.
Since its establishment in 1995, the award has been the most credible and influential in the field of humanities and social sciences in China.
3. The Institute of National Politics was listed among the first batch of national research bases for building awareness of the Chinese national community.
In March, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education and the National Ethnic Affairs Commission jointly announced the first batch of 10 national research bases for building awareness of the Chinese national community. The announcement marked the first time that the four ministries and commissions had set up a research base in the field of philosophy and social sciences.
The Institute of National Politics of YNU, which is the only research base in China to study the Chinese nation's problems from the perspective of politics, was among the 10 bases.
4. For the first time, Social Sciences in China simultaneously published two high-quality essays from YNU.
In March, the third issue of Social Sciences in China in 2020 simultaneously published two high-quality essays from YNU professors Zhou Ping and Gao Wei. The periodical represents the highest level of comprehensive journals of philosophy and social sciences in the country.
5. Xinhua Digest reprinted seven papers written by teachers from YNU.
In 2020, seven papers written by teachers at YNU were reprinted by Xinhua Digest, a prestigious and authoritative literary journal in China.
