The National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences announced the list of projects approved by the National Social Science Fund of China in September 2020, and 48 projects from YNU were approved, including five key ones. The university ranked fourth nationally for approved projects, following the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University and Peking University.

In December, seven scientific research achievements of YNU were honored with the "excellent award" (humanities and social sciences) by the Ministry of Education, including two first-place prizes, two second-place prizes and three third-place prizes.
