Free Spring Festival couplets were handed out at an activity held on Jan 16 at Yunnan University (YNU) in Kunming, the capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province.
Held by the YNU committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC), the activity was co-organized by the comprehensive management service center of Donglu campus and the School of Chinese Language and Literature.
A total of 30 students from the painting and calligraphy association wrote more than 1,600 Spring Festival couplets and more than 2,900 papers with the Chinese character "Fu" (meaning blessings), which were given to the public.
Nearly 10,000 people gathered around and received free couplets.
The YNU committee of the CYLC has organized such activities for many years, giving away more than 20,000 free Spring Festival couplets in total.
Officials said that the activity helps promote traditional Chinese culture, demonstrate the charm of calligraphy, nurture the relationship between YNU and citizens, and fulfill the university's mission of serving the public.
