With the emergence of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the digital economy – the internet, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence – is changing daily.
Cultivating statistics professionals with digital skills and literacy to better adapt to economic restructuring and industrial upgrading is crucial to boost the development of Yunnan's digital economy.
Since 2012, Yunnan University has been giving full play to the international influence of its statistics discipline, exploring and practicing to cultivate innovative statistics professionals.
Over the past eight years, YNU has established a high-level faculty with international influence, including two academicians, three well-known teachers in Yunnan province/leading sci-tech talents in Yunnan province and five top-notch talents in Yunnan province.
The university also cooperated with national and international institutions and universities to jointly cultivate professionals. The partnership has educated more than 1,000 teachers on advanced teaching concepts and created graduate students with global perspectives, promoting the development of statistics in West China and across the country.
The university boasts two statistics courses selected among the first batch of national first-class courses, one national-level bilingual teaching normal course and one provincial-level demonstration course.
The statistics major of YNU was selected among the first batch of national first-class undergraduate majors. The program has provided many high-quality and technically skilled application-oriented digital talents for government agencies, enterprises and institutions in Yunnan province and made significant contributions to boosting Yunnan's digital economy.
YNU will continue to improve the training model for innovative statistics professionals to achieve more significant progress in the future.
