YNU majors honored at the national and provincial levels

Twelve majors of Yunnan University (YNU) were respectively listed as national-level and provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction points in 2020, according to recent lists announced by the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education of Yunnan Province.

Among them, economics, international economics and trade, English, mathematics and applied mathematics, biological sciences, physics, geographic sciences, atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences and engineering, accounting, administrative management, and visual communication design were selected as national-level first-class undergraduate major construction points.

Social work, physical education, Japanese, radio and television, information and computing science, biotechnology, materials science and engineering, electronic information engineering, chemical engineering and technology, urban and rural planning, logistics management, and fine arts were selected as provincial-level undergraduate major construction points.

So far, the School of Business and Tourism Management and the School of Government Management both have three national-level first-class undergraduate major construction points.

The School of History and Archives, the School of Earth Sciences, the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Ecology and Environmental Science, the School of Information, and the School of Economics all have two such points.

In recent years, YNU has attached great importance to talent cultivation and discipline construction. It has encouraged teachers to conduct research and transform research achievements into education resources to improve the quality of undergraduate training.

The university will continue to promote the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" first-class undergraduate major construction and continue to enhance discipline construction.

The "Double Ten Thousand Plan" first-class undergraduate major construction is the Ministry of Education's scheme to promote the construction of new engineering, new medicine, new agriculture, and new liberal arts, as well as to strengthen first-class undergraduates, establish first-class majors, and cultivate first-class talents.

The plan was launched in 2019 and aims to build about 10,000 national-level first-class undergraduate majors and about 10,000 provincial-level ones over three years.
