Yunnan University is a comprehensive university with majors in many disciplines, including liberal arts, law, science, engineering, agriculture, and medicine.
In the fourth round of subject evaluation by the Ministry of Education, the university had 30 disciplines among the top 70 percent of the country, including two A-type disciplines (A+ for ethnology and A- for ecology) and 14 B-type disciplines.
The disciplines of chemistry, botany, and zoology are among the top one percent in the world ESI (Essential Science Indicators) ranking.
Yunnan University currently has 79 undergraduate majors, of which 17 and 13 are selected for the national and provincial "double 10,000 plans" – from 2019 to 2021, the country plans to build about 10,000 national-level first-class undergraduate majors and about 10,000 provincial-level first-class undergraduate majors.
It also has 12 national special majors, six majors of elite class, 10 majors of excellent class, and three national quality online open courses.
In addition, the university has four national key disciplines, namely ethnology, ecology, microbiology, and specialized history, and two world-class construction disciplines, namely ethnology and ecology.
It has become a comprehensive university focusing on researches on ethnology, ecology, biology, characteristic resource development, environmental protection, border issues, and South and Southeast Asia international issues, and boasting relatively complete disciplines and intensive talents.
