The departure ceremony for the Chinese Youth Volunteer Overseas Volunteering Programme (Second Batch) – United Nations University Volunteer Workshop was recently held at Shanghai International Studies University.
A total of 24 international volunteers from 15 universities including Tsinghua University, Nanjing University and Yunnan University participated in the departure ceremony.

Wang Zhiwei, a 2017 undergraduate student majoring in atmospheric sciences at the School of Earth Sciences at Yunnan University, attended the ceremony online.
Wang will serve as a climate change associate at the Dubai-based UNFCC-WGEO Regional Collaboration Center for the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. He will go to Dubai in September this year to undergo six months of volunteer service.
From Aug 4 to 6, Wang participated in the pre-departure intensive training for volunteers. The training covered topics such as Party history, diplomacy and foreign affairs, international communication, leadership improvement, self-awareness, expression skills, teamwork, scene exercise, and case analysis.

The programme is jointly organized and implemented by the China Young Volunteers Association and the United Nations Volunteer. It carries out international volunteer services at various UN institutions by cooperating with universities to select outstanding university student volunteers.
The service positions are usually part of United Nations projects in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
