YNU teacher's work wins second place

A work entitled China & me, five years from now on by R. M. Sugath Samaraweera, a Sinhalese teacher from Sri Lanka at the School of Foreign Languages of Yunnan University, recently won second place in an essay competition hosted by China Daily and the Bank of China.

Since the launch of the activity in mid-May, a total of more than 100 university entries from more than 30 countries have been received. In the end, a total of 60 works were awarded, including 10 first place ones, 20 second place ones, and 30 third place ones.

The awarded works have been published on the official website of China Daily.

The activity aimed to collect text and video works from all foreign teachers to spread Chinese stories during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.

R. M. Sugath Samaraweera recorded his life and work experience in China over the past five years in his essay. He has served as a reporter, teacher, news anchor, TV host, editor, and writer.

Through his personal experiences, he talked about China's achievements and progress in various areas, such as the overall victory in poverty alleviation and China's important contributions to world peace, stability, and development.

During his tenure at the School of Foreign Languages at YNU, R. M. Sugath Samaraweera not only taught courses and conducted teacher training for students majoring in Sinhalese, but also held special lectures for teachers and students of the School of Journalism, improving non-universal language majors at YNU and contributing to cultural exchange with South and Southeast Asian countries.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, YNU hopes to attract more international talent with more open policies, better platforms, and better services. The university will strive to develop an important platform for the regional education center of South and Southeast Asia in Yunnan province, a pioneer in the opening up of education in the new era, and a benchmark for international regional higher education cooperation.
