YNU teams shine at national exhibition on zero-carbon science, technology

Updated: Nov 19, 2021

Three works led by Associate Professor Li Shiyu from the School of Ecology and Environmental Science at Yunnan University (YNU) won awards at the recently held National Youth Zero-carbon Science and Technology Exhibition.

The main participants of the National Youth Zero-carbon Science and Technology Exhibition are young teams or individuals from schools, scientific research institutions, youth social organizations or related entrepreneurial teams.

The exhibition was divided into three categories: projects, academic works and creative works.

Research on the optimization and application of zero-carbon technology for the co-composting of greening waste and urban domestic sludge won both the finalist project award and pioneer project award.

Funded by three college students' innovation projects at YNU and led by Li, the research has optimized the material ratio, moisture content, wind direction and production method of greening waste and urban domestic sludge co-composting.

The study of technology for activating iron to promote soil organic carbon sinks in ferro-bauxite areas won the finalist academic work award and achieved a breakthrough in technology for increasing soil carbon sequestration.

Li led her master students Mei Runran, Huang Yin, Huang Wuping, Feng Yuan, Zong Mingming and Sun Di during the project. The team has long been committed to the study of soil carbon emissions reduction and sink increases in the ecosystem.
