YNU professor honored by Russian academy

The Russian Academy of Natural Sciences recently sent a congratulatory letter to Professor Zhang Hucai of Yunnan University (YNU), congratulating him on being selected as a foreign academician of the academy.

The academy, founded in 1990, has 24 academic departments and is one of the largest scientific organizations in Russia to be recognized by the United Nations.

Its members are all scientists and experts who have made great achievements in the fields of natural science and the humanities. Among the members are 18 Nobel Prize winners, more than 200 Russian academicians and foreign academicians from 48 countries.

The selection for foreign academician is finalized after three rounds of rigorous academic evaluation based on candidates' academic achievements, influence and status in relevant fields.

Zhang is a distinguished professor of YNU and principal investigator of the plateau lake ecology and environmental change team. His research interests include lake deposition and climate change, lake ecology and pollution control.

Zhang is also head of the lake deposition and environmental change team at the Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology of the Chinese Academy of Science.

Zhang has published over 200 papers in high-end academic journals. He has won a second-place National Natural Science Award, first-place Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, and first-place Science & Technology Progress Award of the State Education Commission.
