To showcase the results of China's implementation of the global Convention on Biological Diversity and to popularize the national goal of creating an ecological civilization, Yunnan province – located in Southwest China - staged a provincial photography contest for college students.
Students at Yunnan University (YNU), situated in the province's capital city of Kunming, participated in and won awards in the competition, which was held inOctober, 2021.
The contest was initiated by YNU, the Yunnan Committee of China Democratic League, the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and Yunnan Students' Federation.
The contest was divided into a camera group and a mobile phone group, according to the picture-taking tools. Each category had sub-sections for animals, plants and landscapes.
Some 8,786 entries were received and these were assessed by a preliminary expert review, network review and a final review.
In the event, 48 works won first, second and third prizes and 300 works won excellence awards. The winners received certificates and cash prizes ranging from 200 yuan ($32) to 2,000 yuan.
