Myanmar Confucius Classroom meeting held under auspices of YNU

The Confucius Classroom at Fuqing Language and Computer School in Mandalay – the second biggest city in Myanmar – held the 2022 annual council on Jan 20.

Vice President Hu Jinming of Yunnan University (YNU) – based in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – and representatives of the YNU's international cooperation and exchange office attended the online proceedings.

The Confucius Classroom, the first of its kind in Myanmar, was jointly built by Fuqing Language and Computer School and YNU in 2009.

The council discussed the work of the centennial celebrations of YNU and the formation of its next board of directors.

Additionally, it approved the 2021 work report and 2022 work plan of the directors of the school from China and Myanmar, as well as determined the development path of the Confucius Classroom. The goals were listed as follows:

1. To promote the development of international Chinese language education in Myanmar temples and local teaching sites of universities.

2. To cultivate talent with both language abilities and vocational skills for Myanmar.

3. To increase cooperation with Chinese-funded enterprises in Myanmar, combine the disciplinary advantages of YNU and train people in businesses.

4. To promote in-depth cooperation and exchanges between Myanmar's universities and YNU's disciplines in terms of regional country studies, ethnology as well as journalism and communications.

5. To help Myanmar students to study in China and YNU's teachers and students going to Myanmar in their research, examinations and internships.
