To celebrate the contribution of Chinese paleontology to the international field, the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society - a renowned scientific journal published by the Royal Society in the United Kingdom - invited three paleontologists from China to edit a special edition.
This was entitled "The Impact of Chinese Palaeontology on Evolutionary Research" and it was published online on Feb 7.
The paleontologists in question were Ma Xiaoya of Yunnan University or YNU, Wang Guangxu of the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), as well as Wang Min of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology at the CAS.
The special edition published the latest original achievements of the new generation of Chinese paleontologists and discussed three major evolutionary changes in the macroevolutionary history of biology.
It showed the international influence of Chinese paleontology research and was said to have gotten a lot of attention within domestic and foreign academic circles.
With the accumulation of fossil and stratigraphic data, the application of advanced analysis and modeling techniques - and the increasing integration of paleontology and paleoecology - Chinese paleontological research is expected to achieve more breakthroughs in the future.
