YNU's students volunteer to do work in their hometowns

Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – recently organized a "return to your hometown" social activity for its students during the winter vacation in 2022.

As a result, the YNU students were able to discover the changes made in their hometowns and they also took part in voluntary services to help their hometowns to develop.

During the vacation, a total of 892 teams participated in the activities, and the locations involved 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across China.

Zhang Yilong, a student from the School of Physics and Astronomy at YNU, became a volunteer at the COVID-19 vaccination site in Dali town, in Yunnan province.

He undertook to help with the guidance and registration of vaccination sites and did voluntary work for 80 hours before and after the Spring Festival.

Xiao Yaoqi, a student from Changxin International College of Art – the college affiliated with YNU, went to a nursing home to help the elderly. She painted a portrait for each senior citizen and sent blessings to them.

Students such as Zhu Nan, from the School of Information at YNU, put forward the idea of using the internet for peony cultivation and sales – in Heze city, Shandong province – based on their own know-how. Zhu helped local peony farmers, in their attempts to increase sales channels, by building an e-commerce platform.

Moving forwards, plans are for YNU to repeat the hometown returning activity, which is understood to have been a smash hit with its students.
