Kabaddi is a sport that integrates wrestling, judo, rugby and gymnastics and has become popular in Southeast Asia. Kabaddi became an official event at the Beijing Asian Games in 1990. In 2021, in response to a call by the General Administration of Sports, Yunnan University established a Kabaddi team.

For the 2022 National Kabaddi Championship, the School of Physical Education of Yunnan University is preparing thoroughly for the event. Leading teachers adopted a cross-border and cross-item selection method, conducted in-depth research into Kabaddi, and formed a unique practice method. Both the men's and women's teams advanced to the National Championships.

The implementation of the Kabaddi project in Yunnan province has enriched cultural exchanges between Yunnan and South and Southeast Asia.

The Yunnan University Kabaddi team's entry into the national championships is a testament to the development of Asian sports in Yunnan, showcasing the results of the training of sports talent and boosting the school's standing in international sports.
