YNU alumni association delivers supplies in Shanghai

Updated: Apr 19, 2022

The Yunnan University Alumni Association recently stepped in to help out those who have attended Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan Province – that are currently living in the COVID-19 epidemic-hit city of Shanghai in East China.

The association got involved in delivering supplies in Shanghai, after it learned that many YNU alumni there are urgently in need of help and encouragement.

It quickly set up a working group, formulated the distribution rules for the gift packages and bought vegetables, meat, eggs, fruit and other produce.

The Yunnan University Alumni Association is understood to have always been in touch with the Shanghai alumni branch, to keep a tab on how its members are doing.

With the support of Li Jian, president of the Shanghai alumni branch and chairman of Xingdong Education Group, the association distributed free supplies to alumni and their family members in Shanghai.

On the morning of April 11, the association issued a notice about the distribution of the daily necessities to more than 780 alumni in three WeChat groups, receiving positive responses from the majority.

By 5 pm on April 11, some 597 alumni had registered their interest and it was estimated that the food packages cost nearly 300,000 yuan ($47,000). As of 10 am on April 14, nearly 150 alumni had received supplies.

The alumni expressed their gratitude to YNU and the Shanghai alumni branch on social media.

This action is said to have boosted the camaraderie among the alumni and boosted their overall confidence in fighting the epidemic.
