YNU wins national award for social services activities

The results of the 2021 national college students' social services assessments were recently released on the Creating Youth WeChat account of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League.

The Youth League Committee of Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province – was awarded a commendation.

In particular, YNU student Chen Mengting was conferred with the 2021 National College Students Social Practice Praised Students award.

Social services comprise good works for society performed by compassionate individuals or organizations. In this case, YNU students went to nursing homes to do volunteer work for the elderly or students helped farmers sell their produce through livestreaming.

A total of 892 YNU student teams participated in social services activities last year and the locations where they carried them out covered 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country.

After their experiences, YNU students are understood to have commonly deeply felt the changes taking place in their hometowns while they were away studying. As a result, students have often used the knowledge they have acquired in a specific practice and used practical actions to help the development of their hometowns.

YNU has organized many social services activities during the summer vacations over the years and carried out social observation and research, with a focus on youth.

Moving forwards, YNU is expected to continue to develop its social services program to incorporate both teachers and students.
