YNU launches events in run-up to next year's centennial

Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province – held a launch ceremony on April 20 for a series of activities to celebrate the upcoming 100th anniversary of its founding next year. 

On April 20, YNU celebrated its 99th birthday. Founded in 1922, YNU officially opened its doors on April 20, 1923. It will celebrate its centenary on that date in 2023.

Among those attending the ceremony was Dong Han, granddaughter of YNU's first president Dong Ze; Xiong Youjin, eldest granddaughter of a former president Xiong Qinglai; representatives of alumni from all walks of life in Kunming city and Yunnan province media.

At the ceremony, principal Fang Jingyun released the centennial logo. Its overall design is said to communicate that YNU is a place of knowledge, academics and thought. The main color is sea blue, that of the flag of Yunnan University.

Duan Hongyun, vice president of the university and vice chairman of the school education foundation, announced a special fund for the centennial of YNU. He said donations raised by the fund would be used for the development of teaching and research platforms and in other areas.

In addition, a centennial website was officially launched to provide a channel on the subject for alumni at home and abroad and for all sectors of society.
