The project of a research team led by Professor Zhang Hucai of the Institute of Plateau Lake Ecology and Governance of Yunnan University was recently selected as part of the eighth batch of 16 national-level expert service bases, becoming the fifth approved base for the project in Yunnan province.
The expert service base led by the team is focused on the protection of and governance research on the Chengjiang River's plateau lake in Yunnan.
The establishment of the base is meant to develop a systematic theoretical discussion and research platform for the "protection-governance-development" of plateau lakes and to further expand the channels for attracting talent in the field of environmental protection.
The base's main research focus is Yunnan's plateau lake ecosystem and environmental change and is committed to the protection and management of Fuxian Lake.
Fuxian Lake is the deepest freshwater lake among inland lakes in China and also boasts the best water quality and largest water storage capacity. It is a part of the national water resource strategic reserve.
Based on long-term research and school-enterprise cooperation on the nine major plateau lakes in Yunnan, the base will work to attract more high-level experts in lake ecological governance at home and abroad to carry out scientific research and academic exchanges in Yunnan.
