Yunnan province recently designated 49 collectives as provincial Worker Pioneers and award 49 units and 100 employees with the provincial May Day Labor Medal.
Researcher Chen Dahua, dean of the Institute of Biomedicine of Yunnan University – located in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province – was one of the people to receive the medal.

Chen has long been committed to the basic theoretical research of developmental biology and the applied research of new drug research and development.
He led his team in the use of abundant biological resources in Yunnan to carry out scientific research on the mechanisms of major diseases, the screening of new macromolecular drugs, and the research and development of anti-metabolic disease drugs. He has so far obtained one invention patent and has a series of drug candidates with promising efficacy in the experimental stage.
He has published more than 50 Science Citation Index papers in total, and has won many national awards, including the Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievement Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Chen's achievements have helped develop a spirit of craftsmanship throughout China, and Yunnan University is calling on all its faculty to follow the model.
