The meeting of the Geography Education Working Committee of the Ministry of Education – hosted by Yunnan University, located in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan province – was successfully held online from June 25 to 26.

The tagline of the event is "The Construction of a Geography Major in the New Era Supports the Development of the Geography Discipline". A total of more than 600 people – including Fu Bojie, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hu Jinming, vice president of Yunnan University, and leaders and teachers of geography-related departments at various universities – attended the meeting in person, while more than 2,700 people watched it online.

The event consists of two parts: an invited report and a keynote report. During the invited report, Fu and He Canfei, dean of the School of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Peking University, respectively introduced how geography supports sustainable development and changes in the geography training system in the new era.

In the keynote report, representatives from Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Yunnan University and other universities shared their in-depth research and practical experiences.

Through in-depth exchanges and discussions at the event, national geography teaching and discipline construction units shared experiences and built consensus, promoting the construction of geography majors and the development of geography disciplines. It also helped promote the high-quality development of geography amid a backdrop of "double first-class" development at Yunnan University.
